10 reasons why you should exercise

If you’ve found that your once huge determination to get a banging body seems like a distant memory then this lil blog post might be exactly what you need to hear (or read?). To get you feeling motivated again, I’ve compiled a list of good reasons why you should exercise – or continue if you’re already doing so, go you.

There are numerous reports about reasons to exercise, the health benefits, the issues and how much you should be exercising for your age. While all of these are true, there is a certain amount of exercise a person can do no matter what their ability may be. Among all of the talks about the trials and tribulations of dieting, there is no doubt about the healthy impact that it will have on your body, and (done correctly) the amazing effects that it will have on your well-being and day to day life.

  1. MAINTAINS YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

As you already probably know, your immune system is what keeps you from getting infections and other horrible things. It is said that physical activity helps flush bacteria out of the lungs and airways. As well as this, exercise causes changes in antibodies and white-blood-cells, making them circulate more rapidly around your body meaning that they could detect illness quicker. One of the biggest ones for me, (hello stressy Nicole) is that it can also stop stress hormones from being released as quick into your body and reduces the usual amount of cortisol being released around your body. Pretty cool shit, huh?

  1. IMPROVES BREATHING

As we age, our lungs get affected by tissue that can’t be changed by exercise which may affect breathing. However, exercising can improve your breathing by strengthening the muscles that help your lungs open up to bring in oxygen and compress to pump out carbon dioxide. Just imagine Duracell bunnies helping your lungs now instead of Aldi’s own.

  1. IT BOOSTS YOUR MOOD

When you work out, your brain releases fun little chemicals in your brain such as: endorphins, adrenaline, serotonin and dopamine. All of these little guys work together positively to affect your mood and improve anxiety levels.

  1. YOUR SLEEPING PATTERN WILL BE HELLA BETTER

If you engage in regular exercise, it will strengthen circadian rhythms (basically a 24-hour clock that is running internally in your body in the background), promoting more daily alertness and making your body feel more tired when it gets to night time.

  1. YOUR DIGESTION IMPROVES

When you exercise it improves the blow flow running around your body, meaning that if you’re fit, the amount of blood diverted from your digestive system decreases because the need is less urgent.

  1. SAY HELLO TO YOUR NEW FOUND SEX LIFE

The reasons for this seem rather obvious but hey, still worth mentioning. Once you begin to work out, you start to feel good about yourself which in turn makes you more inclined to want to have sex, as well as physically being fit improves your libido.

  1. IT IMPROVES MEMORY

A study found that when you exercise, it boosts the size of the hippocampus – the part of the brain that is responsible for your memory and learning. No more will you be hoping that someone you have met a few times will bring up their name so you don’t have to admit that you’d COMPLETELY forgot.

  1. YOUR BONES GET BIG AND STRONGERER (petit filous advert guys obvs)

When we begin to exercise, often our diet changes to and when you have a healthy intake of calcium, it helps lower your chances of getting osteoporosis and other conditions that are common as you get older.

  1. LONG-TERM HEALTH BENEFITS

Doing exercise regularly, will reduce the risk of getting heart-disease and diabetes in the future. When you work out, it increases your ‘good’ cholesterol and decreases your risk of potential medical issues.

  1. YOUR ENERGY SKYROCKETS

A workout helps oxygen flow freely through the body and give you more of a boost then another cup of coffee would ever do – as tasty as they are. The fitter you get, the more stamina you will begin to have which in turn will give you energy and make you last longer doing certain things (wink wink).

There you have it, I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I did finding out about all of these cool facts!

All my love,

Nicole
