How I Learned to Love & Embrace My Natural Curls
After spending over a decade trying to erase every ounce of curl from my head, I’ve decided to embrace my curly hair.
Let me take you back to my teens: a time of braces, questionable eyeliner, and endless hours trying to tame what I thought was untameable. I spent my mornings turning my bathroom into a sauna, trying to “fix” my hair. And let’s not forget the smell of burning strands—delicious. But now, at 27, I’ve finally stopped fighting my curls and started loving them. Here’s why curly hair is absolutely, undeniably, fabulously awesome.
1. Built-In Personality
Curly hair has character. It’s bold, unpredictable, and a little wild—kind of like me after two cocktails. Straight hair is great, but curls? They’re a statement piece.
2. Volume for Days
I don’t need to spend $$$ on volumizing sprays or backcomb my hair until I look like a ‘90s pop star. My curls naturally give me that “just rolled out of bed but still fabulous” vibe.
3. Rain? No Problem!
When it rains, straight-haired people panic, but us curlies? We lean in. A little frizz is just part of the charm, baby.
4. The Compliments
People LOVE curly hair. Seriously, strangers stop me to gush about it now. Where were these people during my flat-iron phase?!
5. Low-Key Versatility
Curly one day, stretched out the next, and occasionally straight for special occasions? The possibilities are endless. Plus, messy buns are practically art with curls.
6. It’s Low Maintenance (Once You Learn the Tricks)
Yeah, the learning curve is steep (hello, hours on YouTube figuring out what “plopping” is), but once you know your products and routine, it’s easy. Wash day becomes a full-on spa ritual.
7. No One Else Has Your Exact Curls
Every head of curls is unique, like a fingerprint but way cooler. My curls are mine, and they tell their own story.
8. Curls Are Resilient AF
Straight hair droops at the first sign of humidity. But curls? They just puff up a bit, like “Yeah, I’m here. Deal with it.”
9. It Saves Time (Eventually)
Remember the hours spent straightening my hair? Yeah, I’m reclaiming that time for more important things, like brunch or Netflix.
10. It’s a Confidence Booster
Once you embrace the curl, you start to realize it’s not just about the hair. It’s about owning who you are, frizz and all. Confidence? Curly hair gives you that in spades.
So, if you’re a fellow curly-haired soul hiding behind a flat iron, let this be your sign to put it down. Embrace the waves, the spirals, the coils, and the kinks. It might be a journey (and some days will be... interesting), but I promise it’s worth it.
Here’s to the curls—big, bold, and beautiful. Just like us. 🌀
